This year marks the 400th anniversary of Africans being brought to America against their will. The fact that it also coincides with a presidential election cycle. The president has worn the badge of being called a racist with a sense of vindication that this will ensure another term in the oval office.
There is the belief of some of those running for president that blacks who could prove that they were descended from slaves should get a one time “guilt payment” from those who benefited the most from the dawn to dusk labor of the slave.
I personally do not want one Penney from the United States government, and I know there will be others who will disagree with me but that is the beauty of our country and the way we are governed as a people. Those who came before us had to live in the time they were given the same way we live today. We do what we have to do for the next generation and if there is anything left we indulge ourselves.
The slave only knew that survival no matter how painful the thought that future generations will get reparations in the form of education and positive outlook towards the future and so-called American Dream we all seek at some point in our lives. That would be the full payment for 400 years of surviving including interest.
