Seventeen years ago today the world as we knew it was changed forever because of a terrorist attack on our country by suicidal followers of Osama Bin Ladin. To this day we are reminded of how freedoms we once took for granted continue to be restricted because of government policies that are sometimes seen as over cautious. Metal detectors, bulletproof glass in financial institutions, a restriction of face to face contact in the business world, an unseen distrust of those who are of the same ethnic groups of the hijackers of those four planes and the innocent souls aboard. Whenever I see a pre 911 movie or television show with the twin towers in the background I am immediately reminded of that “day of infamy” of our modern times. The pain of loss will never go away as this is what Bin Ladin wanted to accomplish that day.
This is a day to remember and reflect on how things have changed including our personal lives, especially our attitudes towards others. The “New World Order” that president George HW Bush spoke of not that long ago. Out of respect for those who lost their lives that fateful day we all need to try to improve our society one person at a time. RIP.
