Tender Age Facilities

The Trump Administration’s policy of taking kids from their parents at the border has proven to be an idea that has backfired and once again given our country a visible reminder of how Japanese Americans were treated by our government during WWII. These facilities are supposedly giving these kids a clean living environment, videos games, schooling and so on. No one can really explain why these kids were incarcerated in the first place. In some cases, the parents have already been deported back to their home countries with no way to be contacted about being reunited with their children. The Department of Homeland Security has also admitted that they will not be able to find the parents because of the deportation policy now in place never considered the repercussions of this directive of the president.

The age range of the kids being held is said to be 10 months to 10 years of age. Is the Government now in the business of stealing children in order to “Americanize” them without worrying about the consequences of an illegal and immoral act? During slavery families when they did exist were routinely separated for the financial benefits that the slave owner would receive from that common practice of the time. ICE continues its policy of looking for non-citizens at the workplace and even courthouses across the country to find as many people as possible to deport without their children. This is a legal form of child abuse condoned by those who are now in power in Washington D.C. It appears that we have not learned from our past mistakes related to matters like this. We can and should be better than this as a country that the world looks up to as an example to follow.
