There is a new wave of refugees fleeing the already bombed out country of Syria. I first wrote about the conflict in 2013 when president Obama was considering sending American troops there. Then came the ISIS situation in both Syria and Iraq and the beheading of prisoners by that group. According to news reports coming out today there are about 50.000 people fleeing Syria who are now stranded at the border with Jordan because the Jordanian government says the country cannot take in any more refugees due to lack of resources. President Trump has said in the past when ISIS is defeated the U.S. military will leave the region for good. The breakdown of morality and respect for others continues unabated on a worldwide scale.
There are approximately 68 million people who are considered refugees around the world today. The last time things happened on this scale was at the end of WWII. There is no major fighting on that scale today yet we have the same kind of problems of what to do with displaced people’s. Europe is now refusing to accept any more asylum seekers on the continent. America and Israel are building walls to keep out migrants. The Trump administration has given ICE the power to separate children from their parents when they cross the border. The government is now building semi-permanent housing on military bases around the country for those children now in ICE custody. The president also wants those who make it across the border deported without any kind of legal hearing to speed the process up.
The situation the world now finds itself in is become more dire everyday and the way our leaders are responding to things offers little hope for the future stability of our planet. There are always solutions to problems both big and small. What is needed is someone who is capable of finding a way out of this mess before it is too late for us all.
