Those who find themselves caught up in the criminal justice system live in a world where one is first punished by the courts and then isolated from society as they serve long sentences away from family and friends. America loves to show to the world how we punish those who choose to break the law. When the tv show”Cops” first aired in the 80’s most of the people being chased by the police were young black men. As time went on the networks came up with the idea of filming those in prison who for the most part were black men. The world can only believe that all black men are prone to criminal tendencies.
When poverty is all that you know. Committing crimes against society becomes a way of life for those who end up in a prison cell. America’s history of racial discrimination against people of color when it comes to education and employment can be a determining factor to be considered. Blacks tend to be employed mostly by the government. The military, Federal, State, and County are good examples to consider when one thinks of Black employment in America. Each person that now sits in prison is a loss to society. To change in prison is rare. To change one’s behavior to stay out is the key to success.
