Tales Of The Gun

America has more guns per capita than any other country in the free world. There is no end to the stories about people who faced the wrong end of a gun barrel. Black males seem to be the favorite target of not only their peers but also those who are supposed to protect and serve the public. The police have always been seen as a threat to black people in this country. I started my blog six years ago this month. One of the first stories I wrote about was Travon Martin who was shot by George Zimmerman by mistake. Mr. Zimmerman was found not guilty. The truth of the matter is that all black men are walking targets in this country. In the city of Chicago in 2017, there were over 6000 shootings reported to law enforcement with no let up in sight for this year.

In the last week, there was the shooting of Stephon Clark in Sacramento. He was shot in the back eight times by the police investigating a report of a prowler in the neighborhood. 20 rounds were fired at Mr. Clark. Danny Ray Thomas of Houston, Texas was shot and killed by a black police officer. It was reported that his pants were down to his ankles. It was less than thirty seconds after the officer arrived when the shooting occurred. Guns are made to kill. American’s are exposed to gun violence on a daily basis. In Washington D.C. the politicians keep quiet as they receive donations from the NRA. As long as the money flows nothing meaningful will happen to stop gun violence on both sides of the law.
