I was brought up to think that things were better a long time ago. I always wondered what the term actually meant in our culture. I believe that in the past people lived their lives based on the length of the day. When it got dark there wasn’t much to do by candlelight so people went to sleep when it got dark. Edison’s invention of the light bulb changed everything. The only problem was that there were so few gadgets to use electricity the power companies only worked at night since their services were not needed during the daylight hours.
The one invention that changed the world was the electric iron. It created a need for electric power during the day, and as they say the rest is history. I fondly remember when you could actually find a pay phone if you needed one. A time when human relationships were if nothing else more personal than what they the are now in the digital reality of modern times.
These random thoughts make me believe that the good old days are the times we are living in right now are the long remembered good old day’s that at some point in the in the future we all will be remembering.
