The problems that are coming to the American public about the VA, and it’s shoddy treatment of untold numbers of former servicemen and women. I for one understand that this is a benefit that I earned for serving at least 180 days if active duty back when I was young, healthy, and couldn’t imagine what getting old was about. Thirty five years have passed since I was discharged from active duty. It took another twenty-five years before I applied for healthcare for veterans.
During the years after I was discharged I worked at jobs that provided healthcare for my family, and myself at a cost that I did no notice on my paychecks. I worked for the VA hospital In Long Beach, California in the late seventies. I met and cared for the vets of WWII, and the Korean war. I had the upmost respect, and admiration for those who wore the uniforms of the armed services at a time when much was asked of those who served.
I have to admit that my appointment for routine healthcare have been longer now that before, but like most men I was glad when an appointment was cancelled. The old soldiers, sailors, airmen needed the care more than I did at the time . America cares for it’s veterans that is a fact. I for one do not believe that mistreatment of veterans is the norm at the VA.
